Odd: House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has announced that his party plans to make college tuition deductible from taxes permanently. This is their tax cut. This is what they will do for America, so we're told. Unfortunately, such a deduction was already in place before 2005 when bickering over the tax code resulted in its expiration. Likewise, such tax measures are one factor that causes universities to increase tuition prices because they know the government will fill the void.
Sod: The new Democrat majority will apparently slash spending on missile defense. Ironically, this revelation comes in the aftermath of North Korea's nuclear tests and Iran's missile tests and nuclear ambitions--the two very reasons missile defense is so vital to our nation's defense. [Actually, this entry also qualifies for an "Odd" title.]
Odd: Recent happenings involving the "flying imams" have given birth to a new phenomenon similar to "driving while black": flying while Muslim. In light of the new race phenomenon, consider these other like "crimes": talking while Christian; voting while Christian; nominated while conservative; existing while an embryo; fighting while under attack; etc.
Sod: Fairfax County, Virginia officials have enacted a noise law that will effectively silence a Catholic church's bells. Add this to the long list of government restrictions on Christian activities.
Odd: Danny DeVito's rant on The View sparked conversation on Fox News between John Gibson and two guests as to the offender's needed apology to Barbara Walters. The president, apparently, does not deserve the same gesture.
Sod: Laura Ingraham announced a new rap album involving Snoop Dogg and special guest Kramer (Michael Richards). [Note: The preceding entry is a joke.]
Odd: The blue ribbon Baker commission, Iraq Study Group, will apparently suggest that the United States slowly quit Iraq. American politicians, overly concerned with a dangerous blend of international and domestic politics, will likely oblige, thus damaging US foreign policy for years to come. Rather than winning (which would offend international players), Congress will most likely move to "cut sling load" in Iraq in order to placate a weary public that either wants us to do more (to win) or less (to avoid casualties)--mostly for the latter.
Sod: The Cincinnati Reds new uniforms are gorgeous.
